About Me

My love of nature runs deep.

As a child, Mother Nature was my closest friend, teacher and constant source of inspiration. Growing up in rural New Jersey, I was always outside exploring and studying the natural world around me. I foraged and collected natural treasures along the way (rocks, seed pods, sticks impersonating snakes, bones, feathers and insect wings). I painted with mud and berries, made moss gardens, and built child-sized bird nests in trees so I could perch in them.

Being alone in nature is where I find peace. It is where I return to time and time again, to heal, recharge, and remember who I am. As humans live in our human-made world, many of us have become disconnected from nature. My new collection of assemblage art explores my life-long connection with the natural world, and is a reminder that all humans are part of nature, no matter how hard they try to control or separate themselves from it.

After earning my Bachelors of Creative Arts degree, I was lucky enough to find a string of jobs where I could play with Photoshop all day long. A second Bachelors degree in Earth and Environmental Sciences influenced my work in profound ways. Wanting to work close to nature, I became a horticulture technician and learned the language of plants.

To stay environmentally active, I volunteer as a certified Catawba Riverkeeper water watcher, and a stream monitor with Charlotte Mecklenburg Storm Water Services. I also volunteered at the Redlair Preserve in Gaston County as an ecological research assistant for a wetland plant survival study, and maintained a polyculture aquaponics system developed by 100 Gardens.

In the late 90's, I became a founding member and organizer of an award winning art event series in Charlotte called Vision Explosion. Each of the nine shows combined installation work, performance art, painting, drawing, sculpture and photography. In 2018, I became a founding member of the Conversations With Nature art collective. Our group showcases art that embraces and explores the mysteries of our natural world.

For over 20 years I have been actively working in animal rescue, partnering with Charlotte city officials to educate and assist the community on the humane management of feral cat colonies using TNR (Trap/Neuter/Return). Over the years my home has become a sanctuary for feral cats, most of them with special needs.  Although I love all of earth's creatures, there will always be a special place in my heart for cats.
